(January 9, 1955 - July 26, 2018)

Wendy Elaine Nelles was Co-founder of The Word Guild where she invested nine years of full-time pro bono work to build Canada's Christian writing and publishing community (2001 - 2010) She expanded & enhanced Write! Canada, Canada's largest Christian writers' conference. Wendy also oversaw creation & development of The Canadian Christian Writing Awards Gala annual black-tie event.


Achievements

Wendy Elaine Nelles:

  • was Co-founder of The Word Guild, a registered Canadian charity with the mandate of connecting, developing & promoting Canadian writers and editors who are Christian.
  • played a key role in equipping Canadian writers who are Christian to achieve increased professionalism & greater influence.
  • invested nine years of full-time pro bono work to build Canada's Christian writing & publishing community (2001 - 2010), plus hundreds of additional hours of volunteer work 2010 - 2013.
  • expanded & enhanced Write! Canada, Canada's largest Christian writers' conference. Served as a volunteer on its leadership for total of 23 years. Was co-director of conference for 9 years.
  • expanded & enhanced The Word Awards a.k.a. The Canadian Christian Writing Awards, which honour the best published work in over 30 categories.
  • oversaw creation & development of The Canadian Christian Writing Awards Gala annual black-tie event.
  • oversaw other literary award programs, including The Leslie K. Tarr award recognizing outstanding career achievement, and writing contests for novice writers.


Background

Wendy grew up on her family's farm in Norfolk County, Ontario.
