UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY

Armand Petrie

A respected independent record producer and manager, Armand has worked with artists such as the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, and Sixpence None the Richer. Currently Armand teaches courses on Music Business and Publishing at Fredonia College in Fredonia, NY.

What are the elements that make up good production in recorded music? Having produced the best project possible, how do you proceed? Armand will discuss, copyright, recording demos, and the state of the industry today.

STREAMS OF REVENUE

Presented by Kevin Pauls

CD sales and love offerings do not always provide enough for the artist or band to sustain a living. Kevin will show you how an artist can generate revenue, sponsorships, grants, product, internet in order to create a business model for your ministry.

Kevin has been in the music ministry for over 20 years. He has recorded seven independent projects and has been nominated for many awards by the CGMA (now known as GMA Canada). Kevin won Canadian Recording of the Year in 2005 and was nominated for Inspirational Song of the Year in 2004. Kevin is part of the Gaither Homecoming Tour and has performed with Avalon, Michael English, Russ Taff and many others.

CONNECTING WITH THE INDUSTRY

Presented by Martin Smith

Martin is the President of the GMA Canada and will bring his 20 years plus experience with Christian retail, radio, distribution and industry insight to a session about the state and future of the Canadian Christian Music marketplace. He is also the senior V.P. of Sales for CMC Distribution and lives with his wife and four children in St Catharines, ON.

CHRISTIAN RADIO AND THE ARTIST WORKING TOGETHER

Presented by Jim Leek.

Find out what you need to know before you submit your music to a radio station. What are they looking for and how do you approach them? Learn how the radio and the artists can benefit each other.

Involved in Christian Radio in Canada since 1995, Jim is currently the Music Director and Morning Drive Host on Joy 1250AM in Oakville, ON covering the Greater Toronto Area Market. Having received both a Music Theatre Diploma from Sheridan College in Oakville, ON and an Able Ministers Diploma from the Institute of Ministry in Bradenton, FL, Jim is uniquely equipped for Christian Radio. Jim is much in demand as an M.C. for Christian concerts and events in Southern Ontario.

He has also traveled as a guest singer and speaker at churches in Canada and the United States. Jim has experience leading worship for small home groups, and large congregational meetings. He has served as an Associate Pastor, a Youth Pastor and Christian Education Director, and was the Assistant to the Director of National Ministries for the 700 Club in Canada.



VOCAL WORKSHOP 101

Presented by Lanny Wright and Carol Wright

Lanny and Carol both vocally trained have been teaching vocal for 17 years through their business “Musically Inclined”. For over 20 years they have provided music ministry and lead worship in several churches and other venues across Canada and the USA. They believe God gives talent and that striving for excellence brings glory to God. One should always give to the best of their abilities.

In this seminar you will experience elements of vocal training 101. The seminar is directed to people who love to sing and want to develop their gift. Topics discussed will include proper breathing, vocal techniques, preparing the voice and vocal warm-ups. These skills will help the vocalist to improve tonal qualities and vocal control.

PUTTING A BAND TOGETHER

Presented by Marc Brule

Marc is the National Worship Leader for Promise Keepers of Canada and the Pastor of Wellspring Community Church in Welland, Ontario. He has served with Promise Keepers for nine years and with Wellspring for twenty years.

Marc is also a guitarist and vocalist and has been involved with several bands and other musical endeavors over the years He has a heart for worship and for musicians to use their gifts and talents to expand the Kingdom of God.

His responsibilities with Promise Keepers include selection of music, preparation of the worship band, leading worship and emceeing the national conferences.This session will discuss topics that are helpful in putting together both temporary and permanent bands and worship teams.

Musical skills, personalities, relational dynamics, and biblical servanthood will be discussed. Marc will also deal with how good is a “good” musician, working with what you have, rehearsals, and the proper use of “fragile” stickers and pacifiers.

AVOIDING MPD: MERGING MINISTRY, MUSIC AND MESSAGE

Presented by Reid Cooke and Esther Cooke

Too many churches have Multiple Personality Disorder, a true identity crisis as to what we really want to accomplish in church. God never meant it to be this way! In this seminar you will learn how to link the facets of Sunday morning ministry into a unified whole. Reid and Esther will help to train your ministry team to flow the praise and worship with the preaching of the word, intercessory prayer, and the building community in your congregation.

Reid and Esther are a Pastor and wife team, who work together to powerfully bring people into God’s presence through praise and worship and the spoken Word. Reid’s passion for people and Esther’s anointing in worship leading have given them a unique ministry that links God’s message in Scripture, to the Spirit’s moving through worship and intercessory prayer.

Reid has pastored for 33 years. Esther leads worship extensively with Women Alive, and other events both secular and Christian. They minister at Redeemer Bible Church in Niagara Falls, ON.
