2015 ChangesThunder Bay Christian Radio (CJOA) began its broadcasts in December, 1998 just before Christmas, the result of a ten-year history of attempts to establish Christian radio in Thunder Bay. Through the efforts of volunteers surveying the opinions of people at local fairs, malls, churches, it was felt that there was a hunger for radio programming with a Christian perspective. People were not aware of the new styles of music available as an alternative to existing commercial stations. Through the input of key personnel and the CRTC, it was determined that a music service enhanced with local public announcements suited local listeners. It was always a pleasure to receive feedback and encouragement from listeners who share how the ministry of CJOA had enriched their lives. As people have become so technically skilled and wanting to network with others, we developed a Facebook page so many could see how God continues to bless this ministry. Through several emails from the CRTC, it has become apparent that the broadcasting field is going through changes. We are applying for a license renewal to be decided on at the end of March /2013. CJOA will join with United Christian Broadcasters of Canada (UCB Canada) who have stations in Belleville, Bancroft, Kingston, Cobourg-Port Hope and Chatham and are known worldwide. There are a lot of similarities between the two ministries and the CJOA executive has seen the benefits UCB has to offer. While maintaining its local flavor, CJOA’s programming will expand under the guidance of UCB. These are exciting times for Christian radio in Thunder Bay. Please keep us in your prayers as CJOA undergoes this transition. |
